False or True teaching?
False or True teaching?
This might sound like a critical subject but I want to discuss it from an interesting viewpoint. When my kids were young and my daughter was in High School, she had a problem with math. Now I just imagine half of you can relate to having issues with math. My daughter struggled with the class because the teacher was not able to get his concepts across where she could learn. We are all unique in how we process information. As a teacher it is extremely important to know that your students come from a variety of learning styles. The most common styles are visual and audio learners. This group of people make up most of us. But there is also the kinetic learner. This group is much smaller but still should not be left out or termed failures because the information wasn’t given in a method that they can receive. This was the case with my daughter who was very kinetic and also extremely prophetic. A prophetic person sees more than most of us, and especially as they are maturing because it can be very difficult for them to understand that they see differently than the non-seers in the room. Both of my children were like this, and both of their parents. Growing up it was hard for me to discern attitudes without taking them personally. Most prophetic people are extremely sensitive and thus have to deal with perceived feelings of rejection that might not be real.
When my daughter failed the class, the school reassigned her to the same teacher to do it again. She was feeling defeated and stupid because of the situation. I asked that she be given another teacher because there was the possibility that she could connect better. Sadly, the response was that she was the problem, not the teacher and she would have to repeat his class.
The truth is that the responsibility is not on the student but the teacher! I quickly adjusted things by bringing my daughter into a homeschool situation where I could teach her math in her way of understanding because I knew that she wasn’t dumb. Smarts have nothing to do with receiving correct and teachable information.
I used to get very frustrated with some teachers in the mainstream church. At times there were sermons where I felt like I was relegated to kindergarten because the teacher was giving me more opinion than scripture reference. I felt demoralized and that I should be a good “kid” and just believe it without examining what was being taught.
Sadly we have a big problem in the church that is causing many false teachings to abound. The number one problem is that people don’t seem to want to write those scriptures down and spend time either during or after the sermon by diffing deeper to understand the full message given.
How can we be transformed unless we search through the word for ourselves?
Ephesians 5:26 NKJV
“that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,”
How can we show ourselves approved unless we show diligence as students of the Holy Spirit?
2 Timothy 2:15 NKJV
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
And lastly, how can we verify what is being taught unless we search in the the scriptures to make sure we are not being fed false teachings? Even the Bereans took what Paul taught to verify whether he was telling the truth.
Acts 17:11 NKJV
“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”
I am not offended with anyone and this post isn’t related to offense! I am very concerned though because I know how important it is, especially in these last days, to be grounded on the truth.
As children of God, we must remember that teaching another person is a great responsibility. As students submitting ourselves to teachers, we should have an expectation that they are presenting the truth, that we can find the biblical source for all information they are basing their thesis on, and that it is clear and not dependent on subjective references without scriptural basis
.
We live in times that biblical reference doesn’t always seem important or possibly teachers themselves have given up on their hearers searching out the scriptures.
James 3:1-2 NKJV
“My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.”

Good points, Kathleen. How can believers know if the points they’re taught are true if they don’t have their own Scriptural foundation to test it against? We must dig into the Word ourselves (as you said). Yes, 💯%.
Awesome word!
